Hi, I’m Dr. Avelina Padin
I am a clinical psychologist at Mercer Island Therapy.
I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from The Ohio State University. I completed my residency and postdoctoral training at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago with their Center for Women’s Behavioral & Mental Health team.
My Approach
I specialize in providing evidence-based, client-centered therapy to individuals navigating women’s reproductive health transitions and challenges. My style is warm, collaborative, and directive. My mission is to empower clients to navigate challenging life transitions with greater self-awareness, stability, and confidence.
Areas of Expertise
Perinatal mental health
Pregnancy and postpartum (i.e., the perinatal period) can be a joyous time, but it can also be stressful and challenging. I have expertise in supporting birthing parents through perinatal depression, anxiety, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
Trauma recovery
I use evidence-based approaches to support clients in recovering from traumatic experiences and PTSD, including childbirth trauma. My trauma therapy offerings include Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Prolonged Exposure (PE).
Infertility and pregnancy loss
I have expertise in supporting individuals who are navigating fertility challenges, miscarriage, and infant loss.
Caregiver stress
Addressing our own mental health needs allows us to show up as our best selves for others, but it can often end up at the bottom of the priority list when we’re in a caregiving role. Whether you are a parent or grandparent of young children, a family member or friend supporting a loved one with health issues, or a healthcare professional feeling burnt out and overwhelmed, I can help you develop strategies to take better care of yourself while you care for others.
